Uljin snow crab is primarily found in the waters around Wangdolcho, where the warm and cold currents converge, creating a unique marine environment. Uljin snow crabs, raised in the rich and abundant food environment of the Golden Fishery, are highly prized by consumers for their sweeter flavor and more intense aroma compared to snow crabs from other regions.

The Uljin snow crab’s reputation as a luxury product was built on the sustained efforts of local snow crab fishermen and their ongoing efforts to conserve the resource. Fishermen have been actively engaged in various conservation efforts to protect the snow crab resources, with a focus on Jukbyeon Port, Hupo Port, and Gusan Port. The “Yeonan Fisheries Snow Crab TAC (Total Allowable Catch) System” caps the daily catch per fishing vessel at 600 crabs. Every year from June to October, the fishing of snow crabs is prohibited to conserve the resources. To further protect the marine ecosystem, we will expand the use of biodegradable fishing gear and collect discarded fishing nets after fishing operations are completed.

Gyeongsangbuk-do and Uljin-gun are also working to ensure the long-term sustainability of the snow crab population by establishing artificial reefs, such as snow crab nurseries, to create a stable spawning environment for female snow crabs.

To enhance the quality competitiveness of its premium snow crabs, Uljin-gun is actively implementing a quality assurance system and brand management. Specifically, through quality certification and differentiated brand management for ‘Wangdolcho Parkdal Snow Crab’ and ‘Wangdolcho Single Snow Crab’, the company is enhancing its reputation as a premium seafood brand that consumers can trust and rely on.

An official from Uljin-gun noted that the town’s snow crab has achieved a remarkable 10-year streak as a national brand winner, thanks to the tireless efforts of local fishermen who have protected and cultivated the sea’s resources over the years. He added that the county will continue to actively support the town’s snow crab industry by fostering a sustainable fishing environment and improving the distribution system, ensuring its reputation remains strong.

Uljin-gun aims to further boost the brand value of Uljin snow crab by linking it with various tourism and cultural events, including the Uljin Snow Crab and Red Snow Crab Festival, and will continue to drive the growth of the local fishing and tourism industries.
