Ttangkkeut Haenam has both a geographical meaning as ‘southern tip on the Korean peninsula’ and symbol meaning as ‘start of hope’. Haenam is widely known as the starting point for those on a pilgrimage to the country and the representative tourist site in the southern region with many tourists from all over the country.

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do expanded the tourism infrastructure around the southern tip region to cope with the recent changes of tourism demands. As a result, the renovated Ttangkkeut tourist site greets visitors. Ttangkkeut Tower, symbolizing the ‘end of the land’, has an experience space ‘go one more step from the end of land’ by building Sky Walk with a hardened glass floor. Moreover, World Ttangkkeut Park presents the end of land of six continents, including Cape Roca in Portugal, Table Mountain in Africa, El Arco De Cabo San in Mexico, Les Eclaireurs in Argentina, and the Opera House in Australia. The aged monorail was replaced to secure tourists’ safety and convenience.

Haenam-gun kept pace with the future trend of the tourism industry to develop the southern coast as a marine tourism belt on the basis of a convenient traffic network implementation project, including National Road No. 77 and the Gwangju-Wando Expressway. Haenam-gun has been actively implementing tourism policies making the best use of ‘being Haenam’, including ▲ opening of Korea Dulle-gi l(about 4,500km walk trail connecting the fringelands of Korea), Namparang-gil and Seohaerang-gil, ▲ development of a leisurely tour course with nature, including Ttangkkeut Thousand Forest Old Trail, and ▲ connection with southern region food, the hometown of taste.

An official of Haenam-gun said, “the fantastic scenery and rich gourmet culture of Haenam are attractive factors exciting domestic and foreign tourists. Haenam will be developed as the noted place for tourism, relaxation, and healing by continuously developing tourism programs reflecting a variety of trends and expanding stay-type tourism facilities, including Oceam tourtist sites.”
