Goesan-gun has won the Korea National Brand Award (NYF K-NBA) in the “Eco-friendly Organic City” category for 13 consecutive years and in the “Red Pepper Brand” category for 3 consecutive years.

Goesan-gun was the first county in Korea to declare itself an eco-friendly organic farming region in 2007. It hosted the Goesan World Organic Expo twice, in 2015 and 2022. The 2022 Expo welcomed over 752,000 visitors, providing an opportunity to raise awareness and understanding of organic agriculture. It helped highlight organic farming as a key industry of the future and reaffirmed the role of Goesan’s organic industry as a driver of future growth.

Goesan-gun is dedicated not only to promoting a healthy food industry but also to nurturing promising and sustainable industries that help protect the global environment. By launching the new agricultural and specialty product brand “Clean Goesan, Nature’s Echo,” Goesan-gun has further solidified its status as a leading eco-friendly organic farming region. Located at an elevation of 250 meters, Goesan-gun experiences large temperature differences between day and night, resulting in red peppers with vivid color and exceptional taste and aroma—qualities that have made them increasingly popular among consumers. The 2023 Goesan Red Pepper Festival, held under the theme “Hot or Cold,” attracted over 266,000 visitors and generated 1.09 billion KRW in red pepper sales. The festival’s overall economic impact was estimated at approximately 17.669 billion KRW. During the same period, approximately 50 tons of dried red peppers were sold through pepper markets, metropolitan sales outlets, and the Goesan online marketplace, resulting in over 1.6 billion KRW in revenue.

Goesan Clean Red Pepper Powder, made from Goesan red peppers, is hygienically produced using fully-automated far-infrared dryers and Korea’s only continuous steam sterilization system for red pepper powder. It holds a wide range of quality certifications, including △HACCP certification by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, △ Organic processed food certification, △ OU Kosher certification (for foods permitted for Jewish consumption), △ Approval to use the Chungcheongbuk-do Excellent Agricultural Product Quality Mark and △ Registration under the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service’s geographical indication system.

Governor Song In-heon of Goesan-gun stated, “We are grateful to have been named the ‘Top Organic Farming City’ for 13 consecutive years and the producer of the ‘Nation’s Best Red Peppers’ for three consecutive years.” He added, “We will continue to enhance Goesan’s brand value as a city that delivers the unique quality of clean and healthy nature.” He also pledged to do his utmost to establish Goesan Clean Red Pepper as a premium brand among local agricultural products. “In addition,” he noted, “the ‘Red Flavor Festival’, which was held for the first time last year, will return this year from May 23 to 25 for three days. We look forward to your interest and visits.”
Also, the Goesan Red Pepper Festival, a signature event, is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 7.
